Google Chrome 60 SSL Requirements

Issue: Google Chrome 60 users cannot share their microphone or camera

On August 1st, 2017 Google will release Chrome 60 with increased security requirements to prevent camera/microphone sharing over a non-SSL connection.  All the Adobe Connect hosted accounts will continue to work seamlessly.

For on-premise and licensed installations, Adobe strongly recommends an update to use HTTPS (SSL/TLS)

IMPACT:

Users attending Connect sessions with Chrome 60 and later will encounter the following issues if the Connect servers are not configured with HTTPS (SSL/TLS).

  • Users will not be able to publish their video camera
  • Users will not be able to use their microphone for VoIP audio
  • Users will notice the camera and microphone options missing in the Connect meeting menus

Camera:

Camera pod will only display a black image:

Affected Environments:

On-premise/Licensed Connect customers (all versions of Connect) that do not have HTTPS (SSL/TLS) enabled.  If your URL begins with HTTPS:// you will not be affected by this issue.

All Adobe Connect hosted accounts are configured to use HTTPS (SSL/TLS).  If your Connect URL contains *.adobeconnect.com this issue will not affect you if using Chrome 60.

Cause:

Google Chrome has made these security changes to their browser starting with version 60.

Resolution:

Secure the Adobe Connect application using the following how-to guide: Adobe Connect SSL Guide

NOTE:  Only the Application server needs to be secured to mitigate the Chrome 60 security requirements. We also recommend securing the meeting application as well using the above guide.

Workaround:

Use another browser or the Adobe Connect Add-in.
