Nearly a year ago, we wrote a post on this blog about the plan for Adobe to end-of-life Flash Player by the end of 2020 and our strategy to support customers with a standalone desktop application as well as fully-fledged web application using modern HTML standards.
Adobe Connect 9.7 delivered the first part of the strategy – giving customers a new standalone application they could use without the need for Flash Player running in their browser. We improved that application in Adobe Connect 9.8 and have been continuing to remove Flash objects from our web interface, Adobe Connect Central, over the past 12 months.
It gives me great pleasure to show you the second part of our strategy – a new HTML client that runs in any modern browser without the need for Flash Player or other plug-ins. While we’re not announcing any specific product release today, we couldn’t wait any longer to show you what we’ve been working on. The video embedded below shows you the progress we’re making. We’ve been able to incorporate every Adobe Connect pod into this new client – taking the opportunity to make improvements whenever possible. The new user interface is light, clean, and fast. Really fast.
This new HTML client won’t replace the desktop application – or even the Flash version of Adobe Connect. Rather, it will provide another option for attendees – ensuring they can join Adobe Connect meetings easily using whatever technology they choose.
We’ve got a lot more to announce and more to show. Stay tuned; the future is nearly here.
